There's been some kind of controversy about dodgy TV competitions in the past few weeks. I don't know what the controversy actually is, but I find it hard to believe anyone took them seriously anyway.
TV is just entertainment. If a TV show lets the audience vote, that's just entertainment too. It's not an election, it's just a bit of fun (plus, on commercial channels, a valuable revenue stream). I've always assumed that the actual decision is made by the production team, who are professionals focused on maximising viewing figures. The last thing they're going to do is let the public get involved with there silly opinions.
People who take TV too seriously deserve all they get.
